The season has just concluded with McLaren winning the Constructors’ Championship, a stunning race for Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
In Abu Dhabi, just a few moments ago, the 2024 season came to an end. It was an incredible championship that saw McLaren return to win the Constructors’ World Championship after 26 years, following an old-school battle with Ferrari. Victory for Lando Norris, who crossed the finish line ahead of the two Ferraris, with Sainz ahead of Leclerc.
The Monegasque driver was voted ‘Driver of the Day,’ and the voting public had good reason, as number 16 was the protagonist of an incredible race. A rocket start from the ‘prodigy,’ who, after the first lap, found himself in eighth position after passing four cars at the end of the first straight.
A disappointed yet proud Leclerc, who led a superb season, the best of his career, with three wins in Monaco, Monza, and Austin. There was regret over the Constructors’ Championship, but today, Ferrari certainly couldn’t have done more.
The other protagonist was, of course, Lewis Hamilton. For the Briton, in his final race with Mercedes, the same situation as Leclerc at the start, with a move from the back of the grid and a notable race pace. Starting on hard tires, unlike everyone else, the seven-time world champion managed the tires brilliantly, delivering an impressive stint on medium tires in the final part of the race.
On the last lap, he overtook his teammate George Russell, which allowed Lewis to finish his final race with Mercedes in fourth place and take part in the honor lap with the top three finishers. A standing ovation as he got out of the car, for the upcoming Ferrari driver, a pairing that already smells like legend.
