Carlos Sainz gave his first interview, though unofficial, as a Williams driver while awaiting the Abu Dhabi tests.

Tomorrow, Carlos Sainz will take to the track for the first time as a Williams driver during the Abu Dhabi tests. The Spanish driver, who bid farewell to Ferrari with a second-place finish on Sunday and many tears, is ready to begin his new adventure with the British team.

Williams, Sainz: "It's impossible to say how long it will take to get back on the podium."
Williams, Sainz: “It’s impossible to say how long it will take to get back on the podium.”

These were Carlos Sainz‘s first words as a Williams driver: “It’s impossible to predict the future, impossible to know how long it will take me and Williams to start fighting for podium positions. I think James (Vowles) has said it and managed everyone’s expectations: next year will be tough, a year of learning before we prepare for the regulation changes in ’26, where the team is investing and getting ready to maximize that opportunity.”

The Madrid-born driver then added: “I’m more determined than ever to help this team get back to where it belongs. Personally, I feel I belong in the category that fights for wins, podiums, and Top 5 in Formula 1. I think I’ve proven that over the last four years as a driver. Williams cannot forget that it also belongs in the fight for the Top 5 and podium finishes. And together with the determination and strength that I think we will show, the goal is to fight for those positions in the near future.”
