The FIA, last September, imposed community service on Max Verstappen following his expletive in Singapore. Here’s what it will involve
“The RB20 is fuck*d”*: For this statement, the FIA sanctioned Max Verstappen with community service at the Singapore Grand Prix. The Dutch driver even hinted at potentially considering leaving Formula 1 if similar actions by the Federation were to continue.
Max Verstappen’s Words
Speaking last September about the penalty, Verstappen said: “If it’s no longer possible to be yourself, it’s better to say nothing. Nobody wants that, right? You become a robot, and that’s not how it should be in this sport. I don’t know how seriously the FIA takes my opinion, but for me, when it’s too much, it’s too much. Racing will go on, and Formula 1 will continue without me as well.”
He also raised concerns about his career moving forward: “This also applies to me: quitting is not a problem. I will always stay true to myself and won’t change. These things certainly affect my future. You can’t be yourself; otherwise, you have to deal with this kind of nonsense.”
Verstappen concluded by highlighting the toll these incidents take: “At this stage in my career, you don’t want to constantly deal with this kind of thing—it’s exhausting. Sure, it’s great to have success and win races, but once you’ve achieved all of that, winning championships and races, you also want to enjoy yourself.”
Max’s Punishment: He Will Work in Rwanda
The Dutch driver will attend the traditional FIA end-of-season celebration in Rwanda, including the customary awards ceremony for all drivers. Additionally, Verstappen will provide support to young drivers participating in the “FIA Affordable Cross Car” program, organized by the Rwanda Automobile Club, during his time in the African country.
