It was already somewhat anticipated, but now it’s official. Looking ahead to the next season, PREMA has decided to extend its collaboration with Gabriele Minì for Formula 2.
A dream that began in a small town in the province of Palermo, one that starts with small steps as a child, working towards the ultimate goal: Formula 1. However, before reaching the top category, there is a necessary phase of apprenticeship. This is how Gabriele Minì, after finishing second in the Formula 3 season in a fierce battle with Leonardo Fornaroli at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, will debut in Formula 2 for the full season starting next year, continuing his collaboration with the PREMA team.
This debut will follow his appearance in Baku earlier this season, when the young Sicilian driver had to replace Oliver Bearman, who had been called up to take Kevin Magnussen’s seat with Haas F1 Team. On that occasion, the 19-year-old, part of the Alpine Driver Academy, managed to finish in third place in his first F2 Sprint Race.
“I am really happy to join PREMA in FIA F2 and to continue working with them for another season,” said Gabriele Minì about his promotion to F2 with the Italian team, with whom he started racing in the 2020 Italian Formula 4 Championship. “We showed great potential and speed throughout the Formula 3 season. After the strong performance in Baku, I hope to continue working in this direction and fight again for the top positions in the championship. I am grateful for this opportunity and would like to thank All Road Management, Alpine, and everyone involved, ” the driver added, recalling his experience in Azerbaijan last September.
“We are excited to continue working with Gabriele. We’ve always held him in high regard, and after returning to work with him in FIA F3, we are looking forward to taking the next step together. Having the opportunity to start earlier was a great advantage for both of us, especially since we made the most of it with impressive results. Preparations for the upcoming season have already begun, and the early signs are certainly promising ,” said PREMA Team Principal, Rene Rosin, determined.
