Updates on the 2025 and 2026 regulations are here: everything you need to know about the latest developments!

With seven different winners and plenty of action, the 2024 Formula 1 season—the longest in the sport’s history—comes to a close as an undeniable success. But while drivers and teams can now enjoy a brief break, the FIA and Formula One Management (FOM) have outlined their plans for both 2025 and 2026.

F1 2025: Heat Kit and Sustainability

Among the major changes for 2025 is the introduction of a mandatory cooling device for drivers during races held in extreme weather conditions, like those experienced in Qatar 2023. This system, called the “Heat Hazard Kit,” will be integrated with the cars and worn under the drivers’ suits. Charles Leclerc tested it during the post-season sessions in Abu Dhabi and provided immediate feedback to the Federation.

Another significant update concerns Financial Regulations: starting in 2025, teams will be allowed to exclude expenses related to environmental sustainability projects from the cost cap. This initiative is part of the overarching Net Zero 2030 program, with Formula 1 aiming to become carbon-neutral in just over five years.

F1 2026: Enhanced Show and a New Rulebook

Looking ahead, 2026 will bring major changes both on the sporting and technical fronts. Teams will only be allowed to start developing the aerodynamics for the new cars from January 1, 2025 (and not before). Simultaneously, the FIA will introduce a new “Operational Rulebook,” a dedicated section to regulate activities such as aerodynamic testing and power unit development outside race weekends, ensuring optimal team operations.

For the Technical Regulations, final adjustments are still pending, but the majority has already been announced.

Lastly, the FIA has confirmed that from 2026, the sport will adopt gender-neutral language in its sporting regulations, emphasizing Formula 1’s commitment to greater inclusivity and representation.
