A primary character in the series “Senna,” released on Netflix on November 29, Laura Harrison is introduced as Ayrton’s rival journalist
Portrayed by actress Kaya Scodelario, she is one of the most controversial figures in the Netflix series dedicated to Ayrton Senna. However, Laura Harrison, a journalist who supposedly followed the Brazilian driver’s career since his early Formula 3000 days, is actually a fictional character.
The series has already received mixed reactions: while many fans have praised and enjoyed the film, others have criticized it. One such critique came from Alain Prost, Senna’s rival, who told Sky: “If something is to be made for commercial purposes, it’s not right to use Senna’s name. I’m certain Ayrton wouldn’t have liked this. Our relationship after 1993 shouldn’t be altered because it’s not fair to change history when someone is no longer here. I cannot accept this.”
Returning to the journalist, as mentioned, she is entirely fictional. Laura’s career runs parallel to Ayrton’s, culminating in her writing for Autosport in the final stages of the series.
Playing such a role was not an easy task for Scodelario. As the actress told THR, “It was challenging to find female journalists from the ’80s and ’90s; I only managed to track down two. I found a photo of one swallowed by the crowd, and that inspired Laura—a woman always at the forefront, embodying femininity, intelligence, and competence” , he concluded.
