Yuki Tsunoda is competing with Liam Lawson for the seat of Sergio Perez at Red Bull for the 2025 season.

Sergio Perez is on the verge of leaving Red Bull; in fact, according to Canal +, his departure has already happened. According to the French broadcaster, the Anglo-Austrian team has already informed the Mexican driver of its decision not to continue together for the 2025 season.

Tsunoda: "Driving the Red Bull? I have a 50% chance, it would be a great achievement."

After four seasons, it seems that Sergio Perez is really on the verge of leaving Red Bull. And who will replace him? Helmut Marko recently stated that the team would announce the 2025 lineup this week, with two main candidates: Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda.

According to rumors, the New Zealand driver is ahead of his Japanese colleague, who, last Tuesday, drove the Red Bull during the post-season testing in Abu Dhabi. Tsunoda, on that occasion, made the following comments about his chances of being promoted.

These are Tsunoda’s words: “A seat at Red Bull? I’d say the chances are 50/50. Driving for them would be a huge achievement, but I’m extremely grateful for the support I’ve received in this situation. I don’t know how it will go, but I just want to give my best. Getting on the podium in Suzuka would be the biggest dream.”

The Japanese driver then added: “I’ve sensed that my feedback impressed both the engineers in Abu Dhabi and those in the remote garage in Milton Keynes. I believe they already understand that speed isn’t a significant issue. The focus is more on my feedback, my behavior within the team and in the car, which are probably the most important unknowns.

Although they are different, Red Bull and VCARB share some similarities. In VCARB, there’s a friendly atmosphere, while in Red Bull, the environment is much more energetic, almost like a pub. Red Bull digs deep: they don’t let anything slip through what I say and ask very specific questions. Not that this doesn’t happen in VCARB, but I believe there’s a slight difference here.”
