Ferrari’s Team Principal, Vasseur, outlines the team’s path for 2025 after a season of highs and lows, coming close to winning the Constructors’ Championship.
The end of a championship always brings time for reflection on the past season and the setting of objectives for the upcoming one. After coming very close to securing the Constructors’ Championship, missing out by just 14 points to McLaren, Scuderia Ferrari prepares with measured optimism for the next Formula 1 season, which will see seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton join Charles Leclerc.
“14 points are nothing or everything. It’s a retirement, an incident, a wrong decision. They’re details. I think this was a very important lesson because everything can make a huge difference, and we can’t afford to lose even a single point,” the French engineer added.
Among the know-how required of Maranello’s mechanics for the upcoming year is the ability to respond quickly to any issues the car might experience on various circuits throughout the season, replicating the team’s response in Belgium and Hungary in 2024: “I was very proud of the team’s reaction this year because one of the positive points of our season for me was when we struggled between the end of June and the beginning of July, but we were able to respond quickly, showing good pace in both the race in Budapest and at Spa. This type of reaction will be crucial for next year. It’s true that when developing the car, sometimes you take risks by introducing updates, and this is something that has affected everyone, but it’s how you react in those situations that becomes key, even for next year.” .
According to Fred Vasseur, the 677 project – – which will be unveiled on February 19th in Maranello – will see 99% of the car completely redesigned compared to its predecessor, the SF-24. The changes will affect the chassis, including the driver’s and engine positions, but will also extend to the mechanical aspects and aerodynamic surfaces: ” We are in the fourth year of this regulation, and we know our previous project very well. That’s why the 2025 car will be completely new “.
