2025 will be a very important year for George Russell, the Mercedes team leader, with his teammate being Kimi Antonelli.
George Russell ended 2024 with some significant performances, securing a victory (the one in Las Vegas), his second of the season after the dramatic win in Austria. In 2025, the British Mercedes driver will be the team captain, with Italian rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli joining him as his teammate.
As recently stated by Toto Wolff, regarding the possibility of seeing a Mercedes fighting for the title in 2025, the German team will be slightly behind McLaren and Ferrari, and will focus its attention on the progress of the car that will hit the track in 2026, the season that will mark the start of the new regulatory changes.
In a recent interview, George Russell discussed the chances of fighting for the World Championship. Here are his words: “I’m very happy with my performances in 2024. I believe I’ve never been this good in qualifying: every time the car had the chance to be in pole, we were in pole, and every time we had the opportunity to fight for the win, we were in a position to take it. I think out of all these races, only Canada went badly.”
The Mercedes driver then added: “These results give me confidence. If we build the right car, we would be able to fight for the championship and win it . All the few opportunities we had this year, we seized them. As a team, we’ve won almost as many races as McLaren, which is crazy. .”
