FIA Regulations: Swearing No Longer Tolerated – Here Are the Penalties

Following last season’s disputes over the type of language used by drivers off the track, particularly involving Max Verstappen and the FIA, a new sporting code has been introduced to address the issue. The code categorizes violations into five types of “regulation breaches.”

Drivers will now need to carefully consider their statements, as penalties for inappropriate behavior have been significantly toughened. A first offense will result in a fine of €40,000. A second offense increases the fine to €80,000 and includes a one-month suspension. A third offense comes with a €120,000 fine, another one-month suspension, and a deduction of championship points.

It’s worth noting that, as stated in the official release, these new rules do not only apply to vulgar language but also cover any kind of “political, religious, or personal” statements or demonstrations, as well as “failure to follow FIA instructions regarding participation […] during official ceremonies.”
