As announced by the South African Prime Minister, the deadline for expressions of interest has been extended.

South Africa is determined to host an F1 Grand Prix again. F1, South Africa wants a Grand Prix: deadline for expressions of interest extended

The latest move concerns the extension of the deadline for expressions of interest until March 18. The goal is to give South African organizers more time to submit bids, which will then be evaluated by Formula 1’s executives.

Minister McKenzie personally commented on the importance of a global sport like F1 for the country and the entire African continent. These were his words: “Hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix would boost our economy, tourism, and development, while also showcasing South Africa as one of the world’s top sports destinations. This extension gives bidders the necessary time to prepare exceptional proposals.”

At the moment, two options are being considered for hosting the Grand Prix. The first involves the Kyalami circuit, which recently received the first level of certification from the FIA. However, the historic track is not the only option, as in recent weeks, the idea of holding a race in Cape Town has been gaining traction. One thing is certain: South Africa is serious about returning to F1.
