According to what was reported by the organizers of the Grand Prix, work on the Madrid circuit is expected to begin between April and May.
One year ago, the announcement was made that the Madrid Grand Prix would be part of the calendar starting from the 2026 season. In the span of 365 days, many things have changed, and numerous rumors have surrounded the realization of the Spanish event. However, it now seems that things have reached a turning point. According to the event’s organizers, work on the track is expected to start between April and May.
Doubts have surrounded the event in Madrid from the beginning, but this time, it was directly addressed by the city’s mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, with the following statement: “We are very close to the Formula 1 Grand Prix that will take place next year. Therefore, we need to have the circuit and all the structures in place.”
The common goal of the city’s administration and the organizers is to begin work in April, with the Grand Prix scheduled to take place in September 2026. There’s a lot to be done, as part of the track (the central sector) will need to be built from scratch, in addition to the grandstands, hospitality areas, and pits, which are far from minor details in a Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Due to bureaucratic issues, the work could be delayed until May, but the real mystery lies in the financiers of the project and the event itself. In recent weeks, it was almost officially announced that a private partner would be involved, although their identity was not revealed. To add to the suspense, Mayor Martínez-Almeida assured that the construction of the Madrid circuit will be privately funded, without using public funds.
