Raul Fernandez, after his crash during testing, flew to Barcelona for surgery: the goal now is the tests in Thailand.
Raul Fernandez suffered a nasty crash during the first day of testing in Sepang, which forced him to stop his session (WATCH the video here). After an initial check-up at the medical center, he was diagnosed with a fracture of the fifth metacarpal in his left hand and a small fracture in his foot.
The Spanish rider then traveled to Barcelona, where he landed on Thursday morning before heading to the Hospital Universitario Dexeus—the same facility where Jorge Martin is also set to undergo surgery in the coming hours.
The Surgery and Return to the Track
After further examinations to rule out additional fractures, Raul Fernandez underwent surgery performed by Dr. Xavier Mir. “The operation was a success,” reported a spokesperson for the rider. Fernandez suffered a clean, non-displaced fracture at the base of the little finger on his left hand. The fracture was reduced and stabilized with a small pin.
As for the foot injury, it is a minor fracture that does not require surgery. The rider, as confirmed on his social media, will be able to start rehabilitation immediately and will be ready to travel to Thailand for the upcoming tests.
