Carlos Sainz will be one of the most anticipated drivers of the upcoming season. The Spaniard, after spending the last four years with Ferrari, will drive for Williams, with the British team betting heavily on the regulation revolution set to take effect in 2026.
Meanwhile, the Spaniard has already become familiar with the environment and the car itself. During a Q&A published by Williams on YouTube, he answered some questions from James Vowles. Here are Sainz’s words: “At first, when I had to make such an important decision, I was very focused on which team would be faster in 2025, who was generating more downforce, who was looking for things that would make them faster. In the end, I realized that my decision had to be based on two things: the project and the people.”
Carlos then added: “When I started to discuss things in more detail with James, I realized that he had put together a very strong project here at Williams. He was forming a team, with a vision, with a project, together with Dorilton, which I believe will bring this team back to the front line.”
The British team’s project attracted Carlos Sainz, guiding his decision toward Williams: “There’s very strong leadership and a vision that immediately made me, let’s say, fall in love with the project and trust his leadership. Then, I talk about the people, but that’s part of the same thing. McLaren ended up becoming world champion last year, and I said to myself, ‘Okay, I need to trust my instinct.’ I know that Williams has a good project, it has support, and it has capable people. In the end, this combination of two things really pushed me to believe in Williams and come with you.”
