A record-breaking starting grid for MotoGP 2025: here’s how many world champions will be racing

With about twenty days to go until the start of a championship full of records, many are wondering if the winner will be Pecco Bagnaia or Marc Marquez, but they overlook the fact that this year’s grid is one of the most successful ever: every manufacturer, except KTM, has at least one world champion in the premier class of the MotoGP World Championship.

MotoGP 2025, a record-breaking grid: here’s how many world titles the riders have won

MotoGP World Title Winners

This year, there will be as many as 5 riders who have achieved the highest result in a MotoGP championship. This will be a key asset for each team to make the best possible updates to their bikes, but having world champions on the grid also represents an extra security regarding the team’s potential. Here’s the list of all the winners:

  • Ducati – undoubtedly the official team with the most successful lineup, boasting 8 world titles (6 by Marc Marquez and 2 by Pecco Bagnaia), will be the favorite to win, but other teams should not be underestimated.
  • Aprilia – the Noale-based team, which has never won a world title, will rely on reigning champion Jorge Martin, who is ready to do whatever it takes to defend his first championship.
  • Yamaha – a complete overhaul for the entire team, revolutionized in every aspect compared to last season, with the goal of bringing Yamaha back to the level it was at during Valentino Rossi’s time. To achieve this, the Japanese team will count on Fabio Quartararo, the 2021 MotoGP champion at just 22 years old.
  • Honda – despite a disappointing season, we can’t forget that Honda also has a world champion: Joan Mir, who won the title in the Covid-19 year with only one victory.

This is thus a season with 11 world titles in the premier class, but if we consider the lower categories, the number extends to 27, with a total of 13 world champions. In addition to the riders already mentioned, the list includes Alex Marquez, Franco Morbidelli, Ai Ogura, Johann Zarco, Pedro Acosta, Brad Binder, Enea Bastianini, and Maverick Vinales.

Although KTM does not have any MotoGP-winning riders, it can still boast four riders on the grid who know all about winning world championships.
