The Andretti team is considering several drivers for their entry into Formula 1. The former Red Bull driver is among the candidates
Cadillac is preparing for its debut in Formula 1 in 2026, aiming to form the best possible pairing to present themselves in the best light to the broader public. Colton Herta, an IndyCar driver with the Andretti team, seems to be one of the main candidates for a seat, with Andretti itself having confirmed from the start its intention to focus on him.
Cadillac’s plan
According to Marca, Cadillac’s plan would be to pair Herta with a more experienced driver who is already familiar with the world of Formula 1. Among the names being considered for next year, in addition to Marcus Ericsson—who raced in Formula 1 from 2014 to 2018—Sergio Perez‘s name has also emerged.
Sergio Perez would represent the best choice for the General Motors team, with the driver’s entourage reportedly working to secure him a spot on the grid for 2026. In this regard, Cadillac could offer the Mexican driver the opportunity to return to Formula 1 after the end of his relationship with Red Bull.
The Perez hypothesis finds a strong advocate in Gunther Steiner: interviewed by GPblog, the former team principal of Haas pointed out Sergio Perez as the ideal profile for Cadillac’s plans: “If you’re Cadillac, you need someone with experience. Checo has been part of several teams for a long time. He knows how to navigate He could be a great help. Checo was very good when he was at Force India, or whatever it was later called, Racing Point. He has always delivered results above expectations as an outsider. He couldn’t handle the pressure of a top team. So, perhaps his comfort zone is one where he doesn’t have the pressure of having to prove himself by winning “.
