Oscar Piastri is expecting an important 2025 season after shining for large parts of the previous year.
In a surprise move, McLaren took to the Silverstone track today to test the new MCL39 with which the British team will compete in the 2025 Formula 1 season. The car featured a camouflage livery, as the liveries of all ten teams will be unveiled on February 18 during the London event.

McLaren’s ambitions are very high, as Zac Brown has confirmed the strong desire to fight for both titles. Norris, after a tough battle with Verstappen, is expected to undergo a real switch, while Piastri, who impressed during large parts of last season, aims to find the consistency he needs to fight for the championship.
The Australian is highly motivated for the new season, as confirmed by his words: “Our goal, just like the team’s, is to aim for the maximum, meaning being in the top two positions as often as possible. Of course, we’ll clash with each other from the very beginning; we’re all starting from scratch, and if we have a competitive car, my goal is to win the World Championship. Everyone has this mindset, it’s essential, but as far as we’re concerned, we’ll be racing against each other. We’ve shown time and time again that we can race hard but clean, without taking points away from the team, and that’s what we’ll do.”
Piastri then added: “Last season, on some weekends, I wasn’t as competitive as I wanted to be. I’m working on my consistency, and I need to adapt a bit faster to the different phases of the race weekends. During the break, I worked closely with the team, and we went into a lot of detail about how we can improve this and other more specific aspects.
At the end of last season, I said I’d work hard on my qualifying performance, but from the analysis we’ve done, it’s clear that it’s not just about qualifying better. There are specific areas, and if I can improve them, I’ll gain a bigger advantage. We’ve identified opportunities, and if I put everything together, the weekends where I wasn’t as competitive won’t happen anymore. I expect a very competitive championship. There will be weekends where we won’t be the fastest, but it becomes crucial to make the most out of those weekends to get the best result possible.”
