Franco Colapinto will be Alpine’s reserve driver for the 2025 season, but there are significant chances of seeing him on track.
After impressing almost everyone in his first races with Williams, Franco Colapinto has joined Alpine as a reserve driver. Flavio Briatore has taken notice of the Argentine talent, and the feeling is that the South American might compete for the role of second driver with Doohan, should the son of the famous driver fail to meet expectations.

In an interview with Marca, Colapinto expressed his pride that Briatore had noticed him. Here are the Argentine’s comments: “I’m very proud that Briatore has noticed me. As a child, I watched Fernando’s races, and in the end, the reality is that Flavio invented ‘Schumi’ and Alonso, who are two of my idols. The fact that Briatore believes I can become a future world champion is something very special.”
Colapinto then added: “Williams gave me nine incredible races, and I tried to make the most of them, to show that I deserved only nine races to be in Formula 1. I was able to adapt very quickly and gave my best.”
