Ferrari, Leclerc approves the decision of two mandatory pit stops for the Monaco GP.

Charles Leclerc has welcomed the new directive from Formula 1 that mandates two mandatory pit stops starting from the next Monaco Grand Prix.

In recent days, the new directive from the FIA, which requires all teams to make two mandatory pit stops for the Monaco Grand Prix, has sparked discussion. Due to what happened in recent seasons, F1’s top officials decided on the two pit stops in an effort to spice up an event that isn’t known for its overtaking..

Among the many comments that have come in, there was also one from the local hero, Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque, winner of last year’s Monaco Grand Prix, shared his thoughts on the new directive with the following words: “I think it’s a way to improve the race because strategy would become more important. Qualifying is amazing, the best of the year for us drivers, but in the race, not much happens. This solution could make it more interesting. We need to have an open mindset. If this is the direction chosen, we will have to see if it brings real benefits and be ready to change if it doesn’t.”

This is not the first time the FIA has mandated mandatory pit stops during a Formula 1 Grand Prix. It already happened in 2023 during the Qatar Grand Prix when, due to high temperatures and subsequent tire degradation, teams were forced to stop at the pits three times. The directive is not yet 100% official since it requires the unanimous approval of the F1 Commission, but the feeling is that the Monaco Grand Prix could become the first event of the calendar with custom rules.
