Now it’s official: starting from this season, the Monaco Grand Prix will have two mandatory pit stops.
After the confirmation in recent days, it is now official: starting from the 2025 season, the Monaco Grand Prix will feature two mandatory pit stops that the ten teams will have to make during the race in the Principality. This decision was made after various situations occurred in previous years, aiming to add more excitement to an event that has its strength in the qualifying session.

Here is the official statement from the FIA: “The WMSC has reviewed a proposal regarding the implementation of a mandatory two-stop strategy (both in dry and wet conditions) for the Monaco GP, with the main goal of enhancing the sporting spectacle of this race. Following recent discussions within the F1 Commission, a specific requirement for the Monaco GP has been approved, mandating the use of at least three sets of tires during the race, with a minimum of two different tire compounds to be used if the race is held in dry conditions.”
Recently, Charles Leclerc also commented on the possibility of making two pit stops. These are his statements: “I think it’s a way to improve the race because the strategy would become more important. Qualifying is incredible, the best of the year for us drivers, but not much happens during the race. This solution could make things more interesting. We need to have an open mindset. If this is the chosen direction, we’ll need to see if it brings real benefits and be ready to change if not.”
