Martin underwent surgery for the second time: here is Aprilia’s statement on the champion’s health condition.
Things are going from bad to worse for Jorge Martin: a series of injuries continues to haunt the Spanish champion even before the start of the season. Even the latest surgery was successful, but unfortunately, the Madrid rider will have to wait longer than expected before returning to the track.
Aprilia Statement
Today, the Madrid rider underwent a second surgery following an injury sustained during training. Aprilia has released a statement regarding the rider’s condition, which reads as follows: “Jorge Martín’s surgical operation was successful. The MotoGP World Champion had suffered a complex fracture of the radius, some carpal bones, and a homolateral calcaneal fracture during training.
Jorge Martín was operated on at the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona by Professor Mir and his team. The surgery went smoothly, with the placement of two screws at the radius fracture site and one at the left scaphoid for stabilization and to aid healing. The procedure was well tolerated, thanks to a percutaneous approach with arthroscopic assistance. In the coming days, the prognosis will be evaluated based on the clinical evolution.”
As reported by Motorsport.com, the recovery time is expected to be around 8-10 weeks. This means that realistically, Jorge Martin could miss at least the first four races of the year (Thailand, Argentina, USA, and Qatar) and might attempt to return for the Jerez weekend, which will take place from April 25-27.
For now, he will be replaced by Lorenzo Savadori, but we are awaiting further updates from the Noale team.
