Red Bull has accused Ferrari and McLaren of finding a new loophole regarding the mini DRS, and updates will follow.
The 2025 Formula 1 season hasn’t even started yet, and the first controversies are already brewing. Red Bull has pointed the finger at Ferrari and McLaren over the mini DRS, which, according to the Anglo-Austrian team, could give the two rival teams an advantage as the championship progresses, which is expected to be very competitive right from the first race.
The issue is not new, as the device, used by McLaren during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix won by Piastri, was banned by the new FIA directive, forcing the Papaya team to find a solution regarding the DRS matter. A few months later, with the season still underway, the controversy resurfaces, with Red Bull noticing anomalies in the straight-line speeds of Ferrari and McLaren through the data.
Pierre Waché, Red Bull’s technical director, commented on the matter. Speaking to The Race, he said: “I believe Ferrari and McLaren are still using the mini-DRS. It’s quite obvious, so I think there will be a discussion about it.”
These unequivocal statements will likely force the FIA to closely examine the details of the rear end of Ferrari and McLaren’s cars, frame by frame, ahead of the first race of the season in Australia. Currently, Red Bull is facing difficulties after the three-day testing session, while McLaren has shown to be solid and a favorite as the season kicks off.
