Australia is bracing for Cyclone Alfred, which is expected to hit the country in the coming hours. However, the Grand Prix is not in danger and will take place as scheduled.
In just under a week, the cars will race around the Melbourne circuit for the first event of the 2025 Formula 1 season, the Australian Grand Prix. This is an event that has often been influenced by the weather, and this year, there could be some surprises as well

In the coming hours, Australia will be hit by Cyclone Alfred: over four million citizens have been warned in advance, and meteorologists estimate that the impact will be felt in the area between Sandy Cape and Grafton, bringing intense rainfall, strong winds, and the risk of flash floods.
The cyclone, classified as Category 2, could be one of the strongest and most powerful to hit Australia in the last decade, but it is not expected to affect the regular running of the race weekend. The Grand Prix will take place in Melbourne, located 1300 kilometers from Brisbane, which is classified as the cyclone’s epicenter. According to forecasts, the storm is not expected to reach the southern part of the country, allowing the GP to proceed as planned.
It is difficult to make accurate predictions, as the event is still a week away, but at this moment, the most important weather sites are predicting a rather hot weekend, at least on Friday and Saturday, with sunny and partly cloudy skies and highs reaching 33 degrees on Friday. However, the situation will be different on Sunday, with temperatures expected to drop by at least 10 degrees and a moderate chance of rain.
