The Milanese journalist, discussing the upcoming 2026 regulations set to take effect next year, highlighted a growing concern that emerged during the Melbourne Grand Prix weekend.
The chaos caused by the new cars, contrasted with the success of the current generation, could lead to a shocking and unexpected one-year delay in the implementation of the 2026 regulations. There is even speculation about abandoning the electric component entirely in favor of a fully internal combustion engine.

Carlo Vanzini shared his opinions (and paddock whispers) on his YouTube channel: “There are rumors that the 2026 regulations, which introduce 50% internal combustion and 50% electric engines, could be delayed. It seems that the FIA’s planned cars for the next season are proving to be a major issue, but everything is still under wraps.
The idea would be to postpone by a year to develop an engine with sustainable fuels but without the electric component. If I could sign for this solution, I would do it immediately, but there are many interests at stake. Some parties want to push forward with the current regulations.”
Vanzini continues: “If it’s true that Mercedes is ahead in engine development, it’s obvious that they would benefit from keeping the original schedule. These regulations were initially designed to bring Audi into F1, but now there are rumors that even Audi might favor a delay. Then we have Cadillac entering, and the driver market is evolving…
This rumor is circulating in the paddock, but for now, it remains just that—a rumor. Some say it’s completely false, while others have observed reactions suggesting that some people are seriously considering it.
