Ferrari Team Radio Controversy: Why the Scuderia Attacked F1

Criticism is pouring in from Fred Vasseur and the Ferrari pit wall regarding the team radio that was not aired by F1

After the first two rounds of the 2025 F1 World Championship, the focus shifts to Suzuka, the third race of the season. For Ferrari, this will be a crucial test to assess the real potential of the SF-25, which many consider to be at a crossroads. The Scuderia must deliver a strong performance after the disappointing results in the first two races, especially following the double disqualification in Shanghai.

However, the focus is not solely on the track, as another significant issue has arisen at Ferrari, directed squarely at FOM (Formula One Management). This attack was strongly initiated by Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur. He was notably displeased with the official F1 broadcaster’s decision to air only part of the team radio concerning the position swap between Hamilton and Leclerc during the race.

F1’s international broadcast feed aired only the second part of the team radio exchange, where the pit wall allegedly ordered Hamilton to let Leclerc pass. This, of course, omitted the first part of the conversation between Adami and Lewis, where it was Hamilton himself who suggested yielding to Leclerc, as the Monegasque driver was faster.

Vasseur, not happy with this, commented: “It’s a joke from FOM because the idea came from Lewis. He suggested the swap, but to create confusion and drama, they aired only the second part of the story. I will discuss this with them“.
