Liam Lawson launched a strong attack on Red Bull during the press conference in Suzuka, on the eve of the Japanese GP. The accusation against Horner and Helmut Marko

A fiery Liam Lawson took center stage at the Japanese GP press conference. The New Zealander, after racing the first two events of the season behind the wheel of a Red Bull, was immediately demoted to Visa Cash App RB following a disastrous start to the year. With two Q1 eliminations, two races finished outside the points, and both weekends ending with unacceptable gaps to Max Verstappen, Lawson’s adventure with Milton Keynes is set aside, but not entirely closed.

The New Zealander, who was also at risk of losing his Racing Bulls seat to Franco Colapinto, revisited the hot topic of recent weeks, which has shaken the entire Red Bull world, including Max Verstappen. However, Lawson’s words were particularly harsh toward his former Milton Keynes team, taking direct shots at Helmut Marko and Christian Horner (with indirect support from Max Verstappen).

Lawson’s words and his attack on Red Bull

Liam Lawson’s press conference was highly anticipated, and his strong, pointed statements against his former team clearly reflected his current state of mind:” It felt like in every session we were adapting to something new, and it was tough. For me, it wasn’t so much about driving style but just adapting to a car that is difficult to drive. And, in my opinion, I wasn’t given the time to do that“.

It was a shock, something I wasn’t expecting. Obviously, I would have liked to have more time, especially since we raced at circuits I had never been to before. Racing at tracks I was already familiar with would have helped me, but of course, the decision wasn’t mine to make.”

It is hard to tell whether this would have been the right approach for Lawson to make his partnership with Red Bull work. However, Liam insists: “Testing was tough, the first weekend in Melbourne was complicated, and China was a Sprint weekend, meaning we only had one practice session”.
