Augusto Fernandez back in MotoGP: he will replace Oliveira at Jerez

The Portuguese rider is still recovering from the shoulder injury he sustained in Argentina and will be out once again for the Spanish GP.

Augusto Fernandez is returning to MotoGP: Miguel Oliveira’s injury opens the door for him to get a second shot in the premier class. Moto2 Champion in 2022, Fernandez was left without a ride at the end of 2023 after just two seasons in the top class with KTM. Now, fate is giving him another chance to prove his worth among the elite of motorcycle racing.

Fernandez now serves as a Yamaha test rider, and it is thanks to this role that he’s been able to return to racing in MotoGP.

Miguel Oliveira’s shoulder rehabilitation is ongoing, but in the meantime, he will be replaced by the 27-year-old Spaniard. As confirmed by the official MotoGP website, after competing in both Austin and Qatar, Augusto Fernandez will also race at Jerez.

Last year, the Spaniard finished seventh in the Sprint Race held at the Spanish circuit, so this race could represent a big opportunity for him to stand out and pick up some extra points in the standings—adding to the three he earned at the Circuit of the Americas.
