Ferrari, Hamilton is already looking ahead to 2026: ‘I hope to struggle less with the reduced ground effect’

by Alessio Evangelista

Lewis Hamilton is facing a very tough start to the season, and his statements don’t show much confidence.

Such a start to the season was certainly not what Lewis Hamilton expected—nor what Ferrari fans had hoped for, as they were looking forward to a much stronger beginning from the entire team. The seven-time world champion is coming off a lackluster seventh-place finish in Saudi Arabia, but what’s even more striking than the position of Ferrari’s No. 44 car is the 30-second gap to Charles Leclerc, who secured his first podium of the season.

Hamilton himself has expressed his frustration, already raising the white flag for the current season. These are strong words, especially considering Ferrari’s significant investment in the British champion, both technically and financially. After just five races, it might seem too early to call the season a write-off, but in a recent interview, Hamilton provided more insight into the challenges he’s facing.

These were Sir Lewis’s words: “Charles has been driving this car for a long time, so he knows it very well.. You can definitely see a lot from the data. Honestly, it doesn’t look like the data is that different, except that I’m slower in the corners We have slightly different setups, and I need to understand whether mine suits the car. But he and his side of the garage are definitely doing a better job.”

Hamilton also discussed the challenges of driving ground-effect cars, emphasizing how difficult this era of F1 cars has been for him. These were the British driver’s comments: “Honestly, this era has been the worst for me. I really hope that in 2026, with reduced ground effect, things might change a bit.”
