Ready to learn more about the behind-the-scenes of Kimi Antonelli’s promotion to Formula 1? On Netflix comes “The Seat,” the official documentary about the young Italian’s first year in the premier racing category. Here’s everything you need to know!
A child prodigy. A raw diamond who, weekend after weekend, continues to smooth his edges, always striving to extract the best lessons from the track. A young man of just eighteen, who – between one race weekend and the next – returns to school for his final year before graduation: this is Andrea Kimi Antonelli, part of Toto Wolff’s inner circle, who made his official Formula 1 debut as a driver for the Silver Arrows starting from the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne last March and is currently in sixth place in the Drivers’ Championship.
Inspired by “Drive To Survive,” the series that unveils the behind-the-scenes of Formula 1, and “F1: The Academy,” which will soon be available on the American streaming platform, Netflix – in collaboration with the Mercedes AMG-Petronas F1 Team and WhatsApp, the team’s official partner – will now offer an exclusive look at the dynamics that led Toto Wolff to make the historic decision to give Kimi Antonelli the big leap, filling the seat left vacant by Lewis Hamilton.

In the description of the trailer preview, scheduled on YouTube for April 28 at 3:00 PM (Italian time), it reads: “Tune in for an exclusive look at the official trailer for WhatsApp’s original documentary ‘The Seat,’ featuring Kimi Antonelli. ‘The Seat’ tells the unique decision to promote Kimi Antonelli to Formula 1 driver, making him the third-youngest rookie in the history of the sport. Discover the private WhatsApp calls and chats that led to the surprising shift within the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. ‘The Seat’ will be available exclusively on Netflix from May 5, 2025 “.
