Construction of the Madring Begins, Carlos Sainz Takes on a Special Role

Construction of the Madring Has Just Begun: The Spanish Circuit Will Host Formula 1 in 2026. Carlos Sainz Named Ambassador of His Home Track.

It had been rumored for a while, and now it’s official: the Madring is becoming a reality. In Valdebebas, a rapidly developing area in the Spanish capital, the first stone of the new circuit has been laid. Starting in 2026, it will join the Formula 1 calendar, replacing the Barcelona-Catalunya race, which will leave the schedule after this year’s edition.

With its 5.4 km layout, 22 corners, and already a standout feature — the Monumental parabolic curve — the new track promises plenty of action and entertainment.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held in full Formula 1 style with a race between electric excavators, was attended by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and Carlos Sainz, who has been named ambassador for the new Madrid circuit and had the honor of waving the checkered flag.

“In the paddock, they’ve already been asking me a lot about the track, and what I told them is that I will do my best to help make this circuit a great show. I believe we can be the best circuit in the world and the best event on the entire F1 calendar. There are many street circuits like Mexico, Miami, and Las Vegas, but I’m confident Madrid can beat them,” said Carlos Sainz at the presentation of the new Spanish circuit.

He continued: “I’m asking for a circuit that has something different about it. I would call it a hybrid circuit: part urban, with close walls that give drivers a real adrenaline rush, and part more open and traditional, which is what we drivers love the most. Tight, fast corners are our favorite — and this track has both “.

Madrid is the most beautiful city in the world and the place I miss the most when I’m abroad. It didn’t take any effort to bet on the Madring because I truly believe we can become the best circuit in the world. I have great faith in Madrid; it’s unbeatable. And we’re going to give it everything we’ve got “.

Meanwhile, Isabel Díaz Ayuso highlighted one of the track’s strategic advantages — its location between the airport and the city center — and added: “We’re bringing Formula 1 back to Madrid, and we’ll do it while maintaining the spirit of the city and its people. As Rafa Nadal said at the Laureus Awards, it’s true: Madrid is Europe’s sports capital.”
