Verstappen praises Piastri: “He hardly ever makes mistakes, he has what it takes to win the championship.”

Max Verstappen, in an interview with F1.com, praised current championship leader Oscar Piastri.

Oscar Piastri is quickly climbing the ranks in Formula 1. The Australian McLaren driver, coming off two consecutive wins and three victories in the last four races, became the championship leader with his win in Saudi Arabia. He now leads Lando Norris by 10 points and Max Verstappen by 12. With five career wins under his belt, the ice-cool Aussie has one goal in mind: to win his first world title in his third year in Formula 1.

Piastri’s driving style and composure have not gone unnoticed by his title rivals, starting with Max Verstappen. The four-time world champion, in an interview with F1.com, praised Piastri’s qualities with these words: “I think I’ve already said it before. People tend to forget that last year was only his second season. Now he’s in his third year and he’s very solid.”

The Dutch Red Bull driver then added: “He shows it on track. He does what he needs to do when it matters, he hardly ever makes mistakes, and that’s what you need when you want to fight for a championship. Webber’s help? I think having him by his side is helping a lot. It’s fantastic. People learn from their careers, just like I did with my dad, and Mark is giving him advice. Oscar is making the most of it.”
