After parting ways with Red Bull at the end of 2024, the Mexican returns to a Formula 1 Grand Prix for the first time, albeit as a spectator.
For the first time since his early departure from Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season, Sergio Perez will return to the F1 paddock for the Miami Grand Prix, scheduled for this weekend. The news was reported by the British media outlet Autosport, which also stated that the Mexican driver has already arrived in the Florida city.
It seems, however, that Checo won’t be in the Miami paddock as a “mere spectator”: in fact, according to a report first published by The Times, the Cadillac team — set to make its grid debut in the 2026 season — has set its sights on the Mexican driver, who would certainly be an ideal profile for a new team thanks to his vast experience.
Moreover, in recent days, Cadillac announced that it will unveil its livery on May 3, 2025, during the Miami Grand Prix, in the presence of celebrities, IndyCar drivers, top General Motors executives, and—who knows—perhaps even Sergio Perez. So, will the Mexican driver’s presence in the American paddock be just a casual visit, or will there be a meeting with the newly formed American team?

Sergio Perez torna nel paddock di F1 a Miami: Wheatley “sponsorizza” Checo
In recent hours, Jonathan Wheatley also spoke to the microphones of Formula.Hu, commenting on the rumors linking Sergio Perez to the wheel of the Cadillac. In fact, the British engineer, recently announced as the new team principal of Sauber, had the opportunity to work with Checo for four years at Red Bull, where he held the role of Sporting Director.
“I think Checo is perfectly capable of returning and quickly adapting to the pace in a new team. Last year, he was sitting in one of the toughest seats in F1, next to Max. When you’re alongside a driver like that, you have to constantly look at yourself in the mirror and rebuild, but perhaps even that isn’t enough. You have to continually look at yourself in the mirror and ask new questions. If we look back, we can see that he struggled a bit more with the car compared to Max, and it seems that at Red Bull this year, it’s the same thing.” ,” Wheatley said.

“He understands these aspects very well, and I have always thought that he provided very, very clear, easy-to-understand, and simple explanations to the engineers about the car’s behavior. Checo is an extremely professional, very talented, and naturally fast driver, with whom it has been a real pleasure to work,” the British engineer concluded.
