Maya Weug tops second F1 Academy practice session in Miami, followed by Chambers! Doriane Pin struggles

by Letizia Ganci

The final F1 Academy practice session in Miami has concluded, with strong performances from Aurelia Nobels and Nina Gademan: here’s the recap.

After wrapping up the first F1 Academy practice session earlier this Italian afternoon, the South Beach circuit hosted the day’s second outing for the all-female category led by Susie Wolff — another chance for drivers to familiarize themselves with the track, especially since they weren’t given the opportunity to test in Miami beforehand, unlike in Shanghai and Saudi Arabia.

Maya Weug set the benchmark with a time of 1:58.545, ahead of fellow title contender Chloe Chambers, who trailed by +0.279 seconds. Just behind them, surprise performers Nina Gademan and Ella Lloyd secured third and fourth place, respectively. Aurelia Nobels, the Brazilian driver from the Ferrari Driver Academy, rounded out the top five, finishing +0.672 seconds behind the Dutchwoman — her fellow Ferrari academy driver in Maranello.

ust behind Nobels is Lia Block, whose rocky and unlucky start to the season continues. The Utah-born driver went off track in the first sector just six minutes into the session, but was still able to continue despite the incident. The off-track excursion was caused by wildcard Ava Dobson, who rear-ended Ken Block’s daughter. The incident will be investigated by race control after the session.

Meanwhile, Doriane Pin, who had lit up the timing screens early on, had to settle for seventh place, trailing by 0.792 seconds. Behind the French Mercedes junior were Alisha Palmowski and Emma Felbermayr.F1 Academy will return to the track at 4:25 PM Italian time tomorrow for qualifying, which will determine the pole-sitter for Race 1 — where the top eight positions will be reversed — and for Race 2.
