New dad Max Verstappen finishes fourth in Sprint Qualifying in Miami
Max Verstappen, who just arrived from Nice after celebrating the birth of his daughter Lily, finished fourth in the Sprint Qualifying session on the Miami circuit. It’s a result that doesn’t fully satisfy the four-time world champion, but he’s not overly concerned, explaining that this is simply the current level of his Red Bull. Here’s what Verstappen had to say at the end of Sprint Qualifying in Miami: “I think Q3 went well, the tyres held up, but unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with understeer since FP1. You lose a bit of time in the slow corners on this track. We were competitive in the first sector because there are fast corners, but as soon as we get to the slow section, we’re lacking grip. Fourth place is okay—it’s not what I wanted, but we have to be realistic. I still believe we’re competitive.”
The only free practice session didn’t give teams enough data, which makes today’s Sprint (6 PM Italian time) crucial for properly approaching tomorrow’s race: “It’s hard to say how the weekend will go, we don’t have much data on long runs. Based on my instincts and the feel of the car, I can say it’s going to be a tough and hot weekend, but we’ll do our best.”
