McLaren, Piastri thwarted by the Safety Car: ‘I did everything right, I’m disappointed’

Oscar Piastri finishes second in a chaotic Miami Sprint, hampered by the Safety Car

Lando Norris returned to winning ways—albeit in a Sprint race—by taking victory in Miami. In a short Grand Prix shaped by unpredictable weather, the Brit crossed the line ahead of teammate Piastri and Lewis Hamilton. It was a bittersweet second place for the Australian, who had led the race from Turn 1 (after contact with Antonelli) but was unfortunate with the timing of the Safety Car, which came out just as Norris pitted.

McLaren, Piastri thwarted by the Safety Car: ‘I did everything right, I’m disappointed’

A disappointed Piastri spoke to F1’s official channel after the race: “I think I did everything right, and I’m disappointed with second place—but sometimes that’s how it goes. Races can be tough, and hopefully I’ve saved some luck for this afternoon and tomorrow. Another great start and another good race, so I’m happy with my performance.”

The championship leader added: “A chance to win tomorrow? Yes, we’ve got good pace. We showed that in yesterday’s qualifying too, and we’ll try to improve even more for this afternoon’s qualifying. Hopefully the weather stays consistent. We believe we have a fast car, so we’re hoping to make it even faster and have an easier race tomorrow.”
