From Antonelli’s precocity to Piastri’s records: a look at all the stats from the Miami GP

The Florida heat has sparked a flame now blazing across Formula 1: Oscar Piastri and McLaren are rewriting history. In Miami, they claimed their fourth win of the season and third in a row—this time with a stunning 37-second gap to the rest of the field that left everyone speechless. But the weekend wasn’t all papaya: there’s a young Antonelli rewriting the history books, a flawless performance from Russell, and a Ferrari that’s losing ground. Here are all the stats from the Miami GP.

McLaren reigns supreme on track

If anyone still had doubts, there are no excuses now: Oscar Piastri is the face of the new McLaren. His triumph in Miami marks his third consecutive win—something not seen since the days of Mika Häkkinen between 1997 and 1998.

And it doesn’t stop there:

  • For the first time in his single-seater career, Piastri has put together three consecutive wins in any category.
  • He moves up to six career victories, pulling ahead of teammate Lando Norris.
  • He has extended his streak to 32 consecutive races with points: the fourth-longest streak in history.
  • And with 34 consecutive race finishes, he’s on the podium of another historic ranking, behind only Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
  • He becomes the fourth driver in the turbo-hybrid era to win three races in a row, after Hamilton, Rosberg, and Verstappen.
  • Every driver who has won 4 or more of the first 6 races has gone on to win the championship.

And there’s more:

  • 11 McLaren victories in the ground effect era (since 2022), one more than Ferrari.
  • It is the only team to have been in the top 10 in every qualifying session in 2025.
  • It makes history: the first team to collect the maximum available points (58 out of 58) in a sprint weekend.
  • With three consecutive wins, it marks a streak of this kind for the first time since 2012.
  • A 37-second advantage over the third-place finisher hadn’t been seen since the days when Red Bull dominated (Bahrain 2023).
  • Such a dominant performance hadn’t been seen from McLaren since the 2007 Monaco Grand Prix.

Ferrari: few highlights, many shadows.

After six races, the numbers are clear: in three out of six weekends, Ferrari has scored fewer than 10 points—something that only happened twice in 2024.

Red Bull: the king loses ground.

Max Verstappen is not used to weekends like this: he secured his third pole of the year, matching the total of the two McLaren drivers combined, but…

  • It’s the first time since 2016 (Spa) that he finishes a race without points, without retiring.
  • It’s also the first time since 2023 (Baku) that he finishes behind his teammate in a sprint or race completed by both.
  • Confirming the Miami curse: it’s a GP that has never been won by someone starting from the front row.
  • A unique fact: it’s the first weekend in F1 history where four different drivers dominate the four competitive sessions (Sprint Qualifying, Sprint, Qualifying, Race).

Mercedes: Russell as a guarantee, Antonelli as a revelation.

We already knew that Russell was a Swiss watch.

  • He has finished every single competitive session of 2025 in the top 5: no one else like him.
  • With 4 podiums in 6 races, he has already matched his total from the entire 2024 season.

And then there’s him, Antonelli, who is writing his own fairy tale race after race:

  • He is the youngest driver in history to:
    • qualify in the top 3 (for the main race),
    • start from pole (in the sprint): at 18 years and 7 months, he breaks Sebastian Vettel’s record at Monza in 2008 (21 years and 2 months),
  • He is the first Italian to start from pole since Giancarlo Fisichella (Spa 2009).
  • The Piastri-Antonelli Sprint front row is the youngest in history, with an average age of 21.
  • Mercedes has never led a single lap in Miami: it’s the only circuit on the calendar not yet dominated by the Silver Arrows.
  • But with the Sprint, it has regained pole position for the first time since Monza 2021 (Valtteri Bottas).

Aston Martin: the Sprint smiles on Stroll.

Lance Stroll makes a comeback:

  • With his fifth place, he brings Aston Martin back to points in a Sprint for the first time since Qatar 2023.
  • And most importantly: he has scored all of the team’s points so far in 2025.

Williams surprises again

Positive signals from Grove:

  • Two top 5 finishes in a season: something that hadn’t happened since 2016.
  • For Albon, this is already his third-best year in his career.

And an interesting fact for long-time fans: the 2019 rookies (Albon, Norris, Russell) have finished a race in the top 5 together for the first time.

At Alpine, Doohan has beaten Gasly in qualifying for the first time.

And for those who love the pits: Sauber made the fastest pit stop of the weekend – the first team other than Ferrari to do so this year.

Finally, with this race, the United States reach 80 Grands Prix: surpassing the United Kingdom and Germany (79), and remaining behind only Italy (107).

And now?

With Piastri emerging as a true leader, McLaren more dominant than ever, and young talents like Antonelli already taking center stage, this season has all the makings of being unforgettable. And if this is just the beginning… let’s fasten our seatbelts.
