Alonso has faith in Aston Martin’s 2026 World Championship prospects. The Spaniard’s words spark optimism around the first Aston Martin designed by Adrian Newey
Fernando Alonso believes in it. Fernando Alonso believes — and deep down, we already knew it. The year 2026, marking a complete reset in Formula 1 with new regulations and a car revolution, offers the best opportunity possible for every team on the grid, with all competitors starting from an equal baseline. And the team that has arguably invested the most in 2026 is none other than Aston Martin.

The green team, which has clearly pulled back from developing its 2024 and 2025 cars, has for months (if not years) declared its sole focus on the upcoming season. This is evidenced by the many millions saved on trackside upgrades, but above all by how it has directed resources toward the personnel building the 2026 car.
Lawrence Stroll, increasingly the driving force behind the British company, has channeled much of the team’s budget into securing top-tier engineers: Adrian Newey (from Red Bull), who will serve as lead designer and technical director; Enrico Cardile from Ferrari (despite Aston losing a legal battle with Ferrari over his move); and Andy Cowell from Mercedes, who will take over as team principal, replacing the underperforming Mike Krack, who will remain with the team in a lesser role.
Alonso’s confidence: “Title is the goal”
Alongside last week’s statements from Pierre Gasly, Fernando Alonso has spoken openly about his championship ambitions. A third world title is the dream for the Spaniard, following his two championships in 2005 and 2006. If he were to succeed, Alonso would be celebrating a triumph 20 years after his last title — smashing every longevity record in the sport.
Speaking to Spanish daily AS, Fernando said:”I’m certain we’ve signed the best designer in history (Adrian Newey). On top of that, we have a new wind tunnel, and unfortunately this year we have 18 races we need to take part in, but they don’t really play in our favor or bring us points. It’s strange to say, but we are feeling positive”. “.
When asked directly if he genuinely believes in the title, Alonso replied:
“In2026? Yes, the goal is to win the World Championship in 2026. Are we getting closer? We’ll only know come February next year “.
