Second in qualifying in Imola, Max sees a half-full glass despite being so close to Piastri. His words after the qualis

Second on the grid in Emilia-Romagna, Max Verstappen chooses to see the glass half full despite missing out on pole position by mere thousandths to Oscar Piastri. The Dutch four-time World Champion once again secured a front-row start, momentarily disrupting McLaren’s Saturday dominance

A Cryptic Verstappen at Imola: “The Race is Tomorrow”

In any case, Max will start from second place tomorrow and may well take advantage of the long straight leading into Tamburello to contemplate an early move on Piastri’s McLaren. As has become increasingly common in recent weekends, Red Bull once again managed to transform a previously unmanageable and underperforming car into one nearly capable of claiming pole.

Speaking to F1 microphones after qualifying, Verstappen said:“I think everything was going quite well, but with the softer compound it’s hard to keep the car on track, and they managed to edge us out. But the race is tomorrow.”

Then came an unexpected comment: “Actually, that’s exactly what we need to focus on, because I don’t think today was a particularly positive day for us. I hope we can improve our pace and manage the tyres better for tomorrow’s race”.
