Ferrari, Hamilton: “I’m devastated I didn’t make it into Q3, it will be tough to climb back up.”

All of Lewis Hamilton’s disappointment after a qualifying session that saw him finish in twelfth place.

Lewis Hamilton had imagined his first qualifying session in Italy as a Ferrari driver going very differently from the dismal twelfth-place result he ended up with today. A result to forget for the Scuderia from Maranello, which failed to get either car into Q3: Leclerc finished eleventh, followed closely by the seven-time world champion.

Ferrari, Hamilton: “I’m devastated I didn’t make it into Q3, it will be tough to climb back up.”

This was Hamilton‘s comment at the end of qualifying: “It was really tough. I’m devastated I didn’t make it into Q3 because I believe we had made some progress over the weekend. Overall, I felt the car was better, and so were the brakes. The balance was really good.”

The Briton then added: “The first Q2 run was decent. Then, when we put on new tires, for some reason, we just had no grip and couldn’t go any faster. Everyone else managed to improve, so we definitely need to look into that. And what makes it devastating is seeing all the guys who’ve been working so hard in the garage. Being in Italy for my first Italian race with Ferrari and not making it into Q3 is definitely bittersweet.”

Expectations for tomorrow’s race are quite low: “This is a track where it’s really difficult to overtake, so I think tomorrow it’ll be tough to move up. We’ll have to fight really hard to find a way. But even just getting into the top 10 will be a challenge.”.
