A new kind of penalty in MotoGP: after disobeying marshal instructions, the French rider was punished in an unusual way

An unusual sanction hit Fabio Quartararo during FP1 at the British Grand Prix: the Frenchman was penalized by being suspended from the first 10 minutes of the session, due to an incident that occurred during the previous round at Le Mans.

Back then, Quartararo ignored instructions from track marshals — a behavior Race Direction did not take lightly. However, there was no long lap penalty, which the FIM typically hands out. This time, Quartararo simply missed the opening minutes of the weekend.

It remains to be seen whether this episode will remain a rare case or mark the beginning of a new and interesting approach to penalties — one that is reportedly also being considered for testing in Formula 1, in an effort to bring fresh ideas to race control.
