Toto Wolff places his bet on Ferrari in Barcelona? According to the Mercedes Team Principal, the Scuderia could re-enter the fight with the introduction of their new front wings
Barcelona has finally arrived — a pivotal moment in the 2025 season, now at its ninth Grand Prix out of 24 (see here for weather updates and event schedule). McLaren remains the team to beat, having dominated the Constructors’ Championship so far, with both Piastri and Norris leading the Drivers’ Standings. However, clouds may be gathering on the horizon.

Red Bull has long believed that Andrea Stella’s cars would suffer a performance drop starting from Montmeló, largely due to the new FIA directive mandating less flexible front wings. According to Milton Keynes, McLaren’s key strength lies in that wing flexibility. During the usual Team Principals’ press conference yesterday, Toto Wolff weighed in — also mentioning Ferrari.
Wolff’s Statement: “New Front Wing for Us. As for Ferrari…”
Speaking at the press conference, Toto Wolff stated:
“We’re returning to the track this weekend in Barcelona, a circuit that rigorously tests the car with its blend of low, medium, and high-speed corners. It’s a good opportunity to evaluate our recent updates and benchmark our performance against the competition as we enter the second third of the season“.

““In terms of performance, we still have 16 races to go — the road is long. The team continues working hard to improve the car, and the front wing upgrade scheduled for this weekend will provide new points of analysis.” “.
He then added on Ferrari: “In my view, Ferrari has been the most conservative when it comes to flexible wings. I’m not sure if this will shift the competitive balance on track, but it’s something to keep an eye on in Barcelona — and it may well become a fresh topic of debate“.
