Unbelievable tragedy during the Superbike round at Misano: 65-year-old marshall dies

A heartbreaking tragedy struck the world of motorsport during the Emilia-Romagna Round of the WorldSBK, held today at the Misano World Circuit. Renato Botteghi, a 65-year-old track marshall from Santarcangelo di Romagna, sadly passed away after suffering a sudden medical emergency.

According to the official statement released by Dorna WSBK Organization, Botteghi suffered a cardiac arrest while on duty at the track. Despite the immediate response from the medical staff and his transfer to the circuit’s Medical Center, all resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.

Here is the joint statement from Misano World Circuit and Dorna:

“The role of track marshalls is essential in ensuring the safe and proper running of motorsport events. We are deeply grateful for their work and profoundly saddened by this loss, which comes at the end of a smooth race weekend made possible also thanks to their invaluable contribution.”

Local authorities also expressed their condolences. The President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Michele de Pascale, along with Regional Councillor for Tourism, Sport and Commerce, Roberta Frisoni — who was present at Misano today — shared their sympathy:

“We stand with the family of Renato Botteghi and offer our deepest condolences on behalf of the entire regional community for this painful loss.”
