Ferrari and AWS: A Partnership Driving AI Innovation in Maranello

by Stefano Zambroni

At the AWS Summit in Milan, some key figures from Scuderia Ferrari HP were in attendance — here’s what they shared.

The GPKingdom team was invited to the AWS Summit Milan 2025, where members of Scuderia Ferrari HP took part in a panel discussing how AWS is powering innovation in Formula 1.

Since 2021, AWS has not only been a sponsor of the Prancing Horse, but also a strategic technical partner, supporting Ferrari with a full suite of cloud architectures to maximize on-track performance.

What was said at the AWS Summit – Quotes from Simi and Gaudino

At Maranello, every power unit generates over 1.1 million data points per second, which are then analyzed both in real-time and post-process. These data are not only used for monitoring but also to prevent errors, optimize assembly, and enhance race performance.

According to Alessio Simi, Head of Power Unit Assembly at Ferrari:

“Our team could build a power unit blindfolded, but the 2026 challenge leaves no room for error. When Lewis and Charles hit the track, everything must be perfect. Each component is inspected 100%, both manually and with AWS tools, to guarantee flawless assembly. We must detect if a screw is mounted correctly — even the slightest variation matters.”

To achieve this, Ferrari relies on a centralized tool, capable of:

  • Detecting trends and correlations
  • Anticipating anomalies
  • Generating predictive statistics
  • Systematically applying AI — not just to collect “significant” data, but to capture all available data

As Simi explained, AI and AWS platforms allow the team to focus more on extreme engineering, reduce the risk of anomalies, and ensure the track is all about performance.

Ferrari’s Cloud Architecture, Explained by Marco Gaudino

Marco Gaudino, Racing Application Architect at Ferrari, described how the Scuderia built its next-generation platform in collaboration with AWS. The platform is:

  • Fully serverless
  • Event-driven
  • Optimized for near real-time performance

“With this architecture, we’ve cut data analysis time by 50% and increased our processing capability by 4x — and it’s accessible even to our top engineers,” said Gaudino.

Thanks to this innovative setup:

  • Anomalies are detected before they happen
  • Dashboards provide smart suggestions for component replacement
  • Penalties due to power unit changes are minimized
