Fifteen-time world champion Giacomo Agostini is in the Netherlands: here are the words of the MotoGP legend.
He’s the most successful rider of all time, and even at 83 years old, he still lives and breathes motorsport and motorcycles. Giacomo Agostini, a historic icon of Italian sport, was interviewed at the end of today’s MotoGP qualifying session in Assen.
Agostini’s words
Speaking to Sky, he said: “Fabio is a great rider. Yamaha is a strong team, and he’s truly talented. When the bike is right, he can really make the difference. His superiority in sectors T3 and T4? When someone is that good, they just have something extra. And that’s a good thing.
The important thing is that he gets the right bike to compete at the same level as the others. Did you see how many people are here? Everyone wants a show! And if one rider pulls away alone, there’s no show. It’s only right that others join the fight too—Marquez, his teammates, the whole group. That’s how we really entertain the crowd.
When asked what he told Fabio exactly, Agostini smiled and said: ‘Well… no, come on, I told him: “I know you want to beat my record too, you’re one of those… but take it easy for now!” Have a little respect for a young guy like me!’ he concluded with irony.
