Chantal Fontaine, mother of Frédéric Vasseur, has passed away at the age of 76 — this explains the absence of the Ferrari Team Principal.
Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur did not attend the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix weekend due to a serious family loss. As reported by GPKingdom via the Libra Memoria website, the French manager’s mother, Chantal Fontaine, has passed away.
The news remained private until several hours after the race in Spielberg, but it clarifies Vasseur’s absence from the Austrian paddock, where Ferrari’s operations were overseen by Jerome d’Ambrosio. Despite the personal tragedy, Ferrari secured third and fourth places — and Vasseur showed great professionalism, continuing his work up until Saturday.
It was only later, through the funeral notice portal Libra Memoria, that it was learned Mrs. Chantal Fontaine had passed away in the days leading up to the Grand Prix. The 57-year-old manager returned to France to be with his family during this difficult time.
Mrs. Fontaine sadly passed away on June 27.
The entire GPKingdom community extends its heartfelt condolences to Frédéric Vasseur and his family.
