Giuliano Duchessa, a seasoned Formula 1 journalist, tempers the Sky Sport rumors: “There doesn’t seem to be a decisive sprint.”
It’s July 2, but probably the biggest news of the month was already read last night: according to Sky Sport, Max Verstappen is close to an agreement with Mercedes.

Only a green light from part of the Brackley board would be missing, as announced by Davide Camicioli — a situation that seems to have a clear path to bringing the four-time world champion to Toto Wolff’s team.
Verstappen-Mercedes: is there a real push? The dilemma
Yet, not everyone shares the same view. Giuliano Duchessa expressed his opinion on Twitter:

“I don’t believe it’s that easy for Max to leave Red Bull so soon — it’s not just about contracts but also about walking away quickly from many people he’s won with. Right now, there doesn’t seem to be any decisive acceleration between Verstappen and Mercedes.”
The situation remains uncertain: on one hand, there are reports of advanced negotiations; on the other, no signs of a breakthrough in talks between the Dutch driver and the former team of Lewis Hamilton.

What’s clear, though, is that interest is alive on both sides: neither Verstappen nor Mercedes deny the negotiations, fueling the rumors circulating in recent weeks.
