Tragic news this morning: Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva have died at just 28 years old. Just a year ago, he was at the event with Leclerc and Albon
A heartbreaking day for football and beyond — Portuguese international and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has tragically passed away at the age of 28 following a fatal car accident. Also in the vehicle was his brother, André Silva, who also lost his life when their Lamborghini caught fire after the crash.
A tragic loss that goes beyond football Jota wasn’t just a fan favourite on the pitch — he was also known within the motorsport community. Just last year, he appeared at the launch of F1 24 in Monte Carlo alongside Charles Leclerc, Alex Albon, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, during the weekend Leclerc claimed his historic home win.
The entire GPKingdom team extends its deepest condolences to the Jota family, loved ones, teammates, and fans around the world.
Who was Diogo Jota
Born on December 4, 1996, in Porto, Jota emerged as one of the most versatile and dynamic forwards of his generation. From early days at Paços de Ferreira, his journey took him through Atlético Madrid, Wolverhampton, and finally Liverpool, where he became a key figure under Jurgen Klopp.
With 49 caps for Portugal, appearances in Euros and World Cups, and a recent Nations League 2025 title, Jota was admired for his quick thinking, sharp technique, and intelligent play. Off the pitch, he was known for his quiet nature and passion for gaming.
Jota leaves behind his wife — whom he married just on June 22 — and their three children.
