Charles Leclerc, ahead of the British Grand Prix, shares his confidence in Ferrari: “I hope to win”
There is confidence at Ferrari, especially after a strong weekend at the Austrian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc is smiling and calm as he approaches the home GP of his teammate Lewis Hamilton, expressing his desire to go for the big win at Silverstone.
Charles Leclerc’s Words
Speaking at the media day, the Monegasque said: “Well, first of all, we are quite happy with the last race in Austria. We are improving step by step. We are not yet completely satisfied because, obviously, the ultimate goal is to win races.
But looking ahead to this weekend, I would say we are coming to a track where we have been competitive in the past. Lewis, for example, has always done very well here, so I hope we can have a strong weekend and maybe fight for the victory. It’s been a long time since we really fought for first place, so it would be great if this is the right race.”
Leclerc on the first half of the season: “It’s been a tougher start to the year than we expected. When you finish a season, like we did last year, fighting for wins and second place in the constructors’ championship, it’s normal to begin the next hoping to be at least at the same level. Instead, we struggled a bit more than expected.
Now we are finding our way again, thanks to developments that have definitely helped us take a step forward. We know more upgrades will come — hopefully soon — that will allow us to close the gap further with Red Bull and McLaren. The latter has had some ups and downs, but in the end, it’s up to us: we need to do better than others and try to close the gap with those ahead.”
“I’m not exactly sure what to expect, but I hope it will be brighter than the first part of the season,” Leclerc concluded.
