Russell stays calm: “I’m not talking to other teams. And I haven’t signed yet”

George Russell spoke about his contract situation: “I want to stay focused solely on the driving.”

George Russell addressed the media ahead of the British Grand Prix, discussing both his contract situation and his focus on delivering a strong performance at Silverstone. Amid ongoing speculation about Mercedes’ future lineup — especially the persistent rumors surrounding Max Verstappen — Russell remains unfazed.

George Russell’s comments

Speaking on media day, the Brit clarified: “New contract? No, I haven’t signed anything yet. There’s no update from the last time we talked. Honestly, for most of the season — as I’ve said before — I’ve just wanted to focus on driving. And this weekend is especially important for me: it’s my home race, my favorite of the year, and I want to give it everything to try and win here.”

“We started from pole and led the first third of the race. This year, the temperatures seem a bit more favorable for us — not as much as twelve months ago, but better than Austria, where it was clear we struggled. I’m excited and confident we can have a strong weekend.”

“Of course, the longer things stay undecided, the more you start to wonder how much the team really believes in you. But there are a lot of internal conversations that aren’t public. I know where they stand, I know where their loyalty is — and it doesn’t have to be shown publicly. There’s been a lot of speculation, but for me, nothing has changed. I’m driving better than ever, and ultimately, it’s performance that speaks louder than anything else.”

Finally, when asked directly whether he’s exploring options with other teams, Russell responded with a firm: “No.” A clear message from the King’s Lynn driver — he’s staying focused, eyes set on Silverstone, and still firmly aligned with Mercedes… at least for now.
