Aston Martin prepares for a revolution, Alonso: “Newey is only focused on 2026”

Fernando Alonso reveals Aston Martin’s new approach: with Adrian Newey on board, all of the team’s resources and focus are already directed toward the 2026 project.

Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin are going all-in on 2026 with Adrian Newey. The first season under the new regulations will also mark the British engineer’s official debut with the Silverstone-based team.

The former mastermind behind Red Bull’s championship-winning cars officially began working in March 2025 and immediately focused entirely on the 2026 car project.

Interviewed by DAZN Spain after the British Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso explained how Newey is handling his new role. “He’s working, fully engaged and highly motivated, but he doesn’t seem very interested in this year’s car.”

The focus on next season is so intense that, Alonso continued, “Every time we ask him something about this year’s car, he gets up and leaves the room. He’s already in 2026 mode.“

A season that will finally see, after many years, the long-awaited collaboration between Alonso and Newey, with the hope that the 43-year-old from Oviedo will once again have a car capable of fighting for victory.
